The people of Gaza have been engaging in the so-called "Great March of Return" for exactly a year now. They hold riots at least weekly at the separation fence which keeps the Gaza strip apart from the rest of Israel. Attempts are made to breach the fence. Tyres are burnt. Balloons and kites are sent over the fence with incendiary devices attached, in order to start fires. Rockets are fired, setting off alarms and prompting sections of the Israeli population to flee, once again, to their shelters.
Our friends living in the front-line city of Sderot write of needing to spend many nights as a whole family together in the secure room of their home. They arent complaining, but see the hardships of living where they are, as opportunities. Their first prayer request is for Yeshua (Jesus) to meet with Israel's enemies and save multitudes. They also see the Lord at work in their community, such that they have outgrown the small facility they met in as a congregation of followers of Yeshua, and have moved to a larger and more suitable location.
Fields which, only months ago, bore the burn marks resulting from the fires started by Hamas' arson balloons, now flourish again in response to God's goodness and an unexpectedly wet winter.
Lord, thank You for continuing to watch over Your people. Strengthen and protect them. Fill them with Your Spirit and Your light. Save multitudes of Palestinians and Israelis in the midst of the pain and conflict! Glorify Your name!
"The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing." (Isaiah 51:3)
